The Tokyo 2020 organisation committee lambasted the Belgian designer for having complained to the International Olympic Games committee about plagiarism. Olivier Deble thinks the logo for the Tokyo Olympic Games, designed by Kenjiro Sano and presented to the public in July, resembles the one he designed for the Liège theatre three years before.
“We planned a detailed written explanation, but the person concerned chose to complain rather than listen to us”, the committee explained in a press release.
The Japanese criticised Olivier Deble and the Liège theatre’s reactions. “Repeating their allegations and submitting a complaint is undignified for a public organisation”.
Last Friday, Kenjiro Sano’s design office admitted that his team took inspiration from another company’s projects for a publicity campaign.
Liège theatre and Olivier Deble’s legal action to prevent the use of the logo in question will be addressed by the Liège civil tribunal at 9am on the 22nd of September, their lawyers said.
