Brabant killers – certain families of victims want end of investigation

The families of some of the Brabant killers’ victims want investigations into the unsolved crimes to come to an end, at a time when Minister of Justice Koen Geens aims to extend the statute of limitations for crimes “punishable by life imprisonment” to 40 years. “This is absurd; the case is too old and rushing into legislative change of the statute of limitations will make no difference,” according to Mr. Peter Callebaut, counsel for several families, in the daily De Morgen on Monday.

The last attack by the Brabant killers took place at the Delhaize supermarket in Aalst on November 9th, 1985, almost 30 years ago.

There are currently 9 police officers trying to solve the mystery of the 28 Brabant killings during the period between 1983 and 1985. Mr. Callebaut believes continuing with the investigation is a waste of money.
