A gang that was kidnapping extorting passers-by near the ULB has been dismantled

Between Friday and Saturday, local Montgomery police arrested a gang who admitted to kidnapping, imprisonment and extortion. This was confirmed by the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office on Sunday. Four suspects aged between 19 and 24 were questioned and arrested.

Several similar incidents happened in October, each time between 3 and 4am. There were kidnappings followed by muggings or violent attempted muggings. Most of the victims are students who had been drinking. They were locked in a vehicle and forced to hand over their wallet, mobile phone and bank card.

Three people were attacked between the 9th and the 16th of October. Extra patrols have been put in place, and one of them spotted the suspects at around 1am on Saturday. The officers followed them to a car. A man in his seventies had been locked inside. He had been kidnapped in Ghent, and then beaten. The suspects had his wallet and bank card.

The suspects were born in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1996. They went before an investigating judge, who placed them under arrest. Police are trying to link them to other crimes.
