Jihadists will have their papers taken away from January

At the initiative of the Organ for Threat Analysis Coordination (Ocam), the Home Affairs Minister will soon be able to confiscate the identity card or passport of Belgians suspected of being “jihads”, for six months. This was revealed by Le Soir on Saturday.

To make this measure possible, administrative and judicial bodies introduced specific laws in August. They were voted in together, but following and evaluating suspects, and taking away their documents needs to be pertinent, and stand up to possible appeals.

This is what Ocam has almost done. It is legally in charge of evaluating the risk and putting the measure enabling the confiscation of individual administrative documents before the Home Affairs minister.

Ocam has developed a new method, tested it, and is ready to apply it in December, or at the latest the 1st of January. Taking away documents could be implemented for a maximum of three months, and renewed for another three months.
