A new legal psychiatric centre will be opened in Hofstade, near Alost. It will hold 300 prisoners, said Sarah Smeyers (New Flemish Alliance), a member of the Justice Chamber Commission. This comes after information on the Masterplan concerning prison capacity appeared in Le Soir.
It thinks the Minister’s council will approve the set-up of the centre soon.
It will hold prisoners there is no space for, which has already been pointed out by the European courts for Human Rights.
According to the MP, they plan to start work on the construction as soon as possible.
