Attacks in Brussels - individuals arrested in Spain: the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office does not comment

The anti-jihadist operation carried out on Tuesday in Barcelona was part of a Belgian terrorism case and a Spanish terrorism case, the Federal Public Prosecutor said. "The Belgian police attended the scene as observers", he said, without making further comments.

Eight people were arrested in Barcelona as part of an anti-Jihadist operation carried out by the Catalan police, the Spanish national police and the federal police.

Among the suspects, "four have ties with people arrested for the attacks committed in the subway and Brussels airport", which left 32 dead on 22 March 2016, said a spokesman for the Catalan regional police.

However, it is not known at this stage whether they had "direct involvement", he said.
