Police in Beersel, Halle and Sint-Pieters-Leeuw were searching for a “suspicious individual” after an incident at Hal station on Sunday night, confirmed Mark Crispel, commanding officer in charge of the zone.
The person in question behaved suspiciously on Sunday night on a train linking Brussels to Tournai. Another passenger alerted the police. The person in question set off the train alarm and fled into Halle station.
His flight caused panic among the passengers as the individual seemed to leave behind a package which ultimately turned out to belong to the train attendant, according to the commanding officer.
The train resumed its course with the passengers on board in the direction of Tournai.
The police are still looking for the suspect passenger.
