Justice Minister Geens signs agreement on drug money with Morocco

Justice Minister Koen Geens signed an agreement on Tuesday in Morocco with the Moroccan authorities to enhance bilateral cooperation in seizing money linked to drug trafficking, Het Nieuwsblad and the Gazet van Antwerpen reported on Tuesday. The Moroccan Justice authorities had hitherto not been prepared to cooperate. Since 2013, Belgium has asked over a hundred times for their assistance in cases linked to drugs and money laundering, but there were few responses to such requests. This was often for economic reasons since drug money was reinjected into the Moroccan economy.

The new agreement should bring about an improvement of this situation.
