Policeman knifed in Maximilien Park, police shoot and wound suspect

Brussels police shot a man, wounding him in the chest and arm, after he attacked one of their colleagues at about 9.15 a.m. on Monday in the Maximilien Park, slightly wounding him, VRT reported. The information was confirmed by the Office of the Public Prosecutor and the local police. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately known.

An eyewitness told Belga news agency that the incident occurred when police woke up a number of migrants sleeping in the park. One of the migrants reportedly panicked and hit a policeman in the face.

The policeman used pepper spray on the man who then knifed him in the face. Other police officers subsequently fired three shots at the individual, wounding him.
