Due to the latent feeling of insecurity among the population, Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Theo Francken (N-VA) intends to send bag snatchers in stores and pickpockets who are residing in Belgium illegally, back to their countries. This measure is included in next year’s policy memo, we read Monday in Het Nieuwsblad.
Last year, the Foreign Office had expelled 1,622 undocumented criminals. By early August, the number had reached 1,000. Most of these foreigners had been expelled for serious offenses.
The precise number of store thieves or pickpockets who are illegal residents in Belgium is not known, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
