For the fourth time in 10 years, UNIA (Centre for Equal Opportunities) has dealt with over 100 cases of anti-Semitism in the past year. The number of anti-Semitic incidents has almost doubled between 2017 and 2018, from 56 to 101. "These figures go along the slightly rising trend since 2008," UNIA Director Patrick Chan says.
Anti-Semitism is what we deal with the most on the Internet. The number has quadrupled in a year to reach 32 in 2018. "These posts extend from one on Jewish conspiracy as far as the one about Hitler who did not finish his job," UNIA stresses.
The Centre also dealt with 31 files relating to negationist comments (who deny the Holocaust) and 15 verbal attacks or threats on persons identified as Jewish.
Six acts of vandalism were also recorded in 2018, compared to only one in 2017.
Since 2008, UNIA has recorded a slight increase in files linked to anti-Semitism. This can be explained by the fact that "we are moving towards a society of confrontation and more citizens are aware of UNIA as a human rights defender," UNIA suggests.
