A 32-year-old man lost his eye a fight in Saint-Gilles on Sunday night, according to reports. The reason for the fight is still unclear.

The fight took place around 2 o’clock on Monday morning at the Avenue Fonsny, on the intersection with the Rue de Hollande, confirmed the Brussels public prosecutor.

Both men (32 and 39 years), were presumed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reports het Nieuwsblad. At one point one of them picked up a knife and put it in the eye of his 32-year-old opponent.

Both men were taken to hospital following the event. The Brussels prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation for attempted manslaughter. The case will be heard by the investigating judge on Tuesday.
