A man in his forties has committed suicide after attacking his wife in Chaumont-Gistoux, next to Wavre, on Wednesday, according to Wallon-Brabant’s prosecutor’s office.
The woman, born in 1986, fled to her neighbour on rue du Bois Matelle on Tuesday evening.
Bleeding and seriously wounded, she explained that her husband had hit her with a hammer. She was subsequently taken to hospital whereby police was also notified.
When the police arrived to the couple’s home, they found the body of the husband lying in the basement.
Before committing suicide, the man, born in 1971, had left a message saying that “he would kill everyone before killing himself.”
The prosecutor’s office has since announced that the woman is under stable conditions.
