DéFI Politics Congress - Since the attacks, more than 200 businesses are using experts, says Mr Gosuin

More than 200 businesses are using external regional experts. This is all part of measures the Brussels government put in place to support the economy, which has been severely hit by the attacks in Brussels and Paris. These measures have helped secure 600 businesses under threat, the Brussels Economy and Employment Minister Didier Gosuin said on Sunday. He was invited to discuss what DéFI has achieved since its launch with those in favour of amaranth training. The Brussels State secretary Cécile Jodogne, who is in charge of SIAMU and External Trade, was also present.

The Economy minister also reminded people that the Region had allocated 3.5 million euros in loans and bank deals to 90 businesses.

On a bigger scale, Didier Gosuin celebrated the successful impact of the measures taken to fight unemployment. The unemployment rate has dropped from 21 to 17.8% in two years. He said 14,000 unemployed people, many of them young, have found work. The amount of people in training has gone up by 1,300, he added. He also said that other measures will be adopted soon.

The head of DéFI within the Brussels government said “the Brussels region has not suffered”. The figures for 11% of the Belgian population show Brussels represents 18.3% of the national GDP and hosts 23% of innovative start-ups. It also created 28% of business’ net profit in 2015.

“We have said we are ready to work with everyone. Flanders chose not to. We took the risk of opening up and moving over to federalism. This was backed by several joint groups within the French-speaking government and significant advances by Wallonia with regards to training”, he said.
