Anti-Trump protest in the centre of Namur

Several dozen anti-fascist demonstrators and people hostile to US President Donald Trump gathered on Friday at noon at the Place de l'Ange in Namur on the initiative of the FGTB Youth socialist union and MWB Steelworkers movements. The FGTB Youth and the MWB-FGTB want to block the speech of Donald Trump. According to them, the US president threatens the rights of employed as well as unemployed workers, women and foreigners.

"We want to send a series of messages to the public", says Angela Sciacchitano, FGTB Youth secretary general. "Trump is a radical symbol for us, he has no regard for workers, women or anyone who is different from him."

The trade unions also denounced the policy implemented in Belgium. "A lot of measures have been put in place to attack the weakest, as Trump does, and we are strongly attacked by the right, and at this rate the negotiating bodies will soon be unable to negotiate and we will no longer be able to represent the Workers", concluded Ms. Sciacchitano.

A larger demonstration will take place on May 24 in Brussels in protest against the NATO summit planned on the 25th.
