US withdraws from Paris agreement - Trump still wants to "stay engaged" on climate

US President Donald Trump wants to "stay engaged" on the issue of climate despite the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris agreement, assured his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, on Monday. Mr Trump decided to leave the Paris agreement because he believed it "did not serve the American people or their future economic interests", Tillerson said while visiting Sydney.

"But I believe that the fact that the president has indicated that he is ready to review things, to discuss and perhaps to find a new agreement means that he recognises that the problem is important and wants to remain engaged on this issue", he added.

The head of the US diplomacy, which were among those who were not in favour of an exit from the Paris agreement according to observers, said last week that the United States would unilaterally pursue their efforts to combat global warming.
