"Yvan Mayeur is not the mayor that the people of Brussels deserve"

"Yvan Mayeur is not the mayor that the people of Brussels deserve"

Brussels-based secretary of state, Bianca Debaets (CD&V), ruled the "royal remuneration for the involvement in the so-called non-profit association" as "shameful to say the least". The ruling by Mrs Debaets was made on Wednesday in reference to the past mandate of the mayor of Brussels, Yvan Mayeur, at the Samusocial. "It is not the first time that the mayor of the City of Brussels has been shamed with respect to its inhabitants. We must dare to state it as an obvious fact: Yvan Mayeur is not the mayor that the people of Brussels deserve", Mrs Debaets said on social networks.

"I hope that he and his coalition partners will eventually realise this, and that they do so sooner rather than later", she added.

Ecolo and Groen, as well as the cdH and the CD&V, are requesting a parliamentary commission of inquiry.

The Brussels government this Thursday should consider a report from government commissioners, announced by regional minister-president Rudi Vervoort (PS) last Friday in parliament.

For Mrs Debaets, if it were to appear that the remuneration of Mr Mayeur and the director, Pascale Peraïta, had been paid without having contributed any real benefits, such remuneration would have to be reimbursed and the money used to support the homeless.
