Brussels-based secretary of state and communal councilor of the opposition to the City of Brussels, Bianca Debaets (CD&V), is calling for Yvan Mayeur to resign from his post as mayor. "There is a huge breach of confidence between the inhabitants of the City of Brussels and its Mayor, Yvan Mayeur, and I ask again that Mr Mayeur choose to save his honour and resign from his post as mayor", she said in a statement.
"It seems more and more obvious that means which were intended to help the weakest have been used shamelessly for the purpose of personal enrichment. Yvan Mayeur's position as mayor of the City of Brussels is no longer tenable. He must resign", she said.
