Wednesday evening, N-VA President Bart De Wever queried once again the exit from nuclear energy. “Ending fossil energy, ending nuclear, and at the same time achieving the electrification of the vehicle fleet for 2030 is not realistic in terms of supply and cost,” he stated during a political debate organized by Agoria, the technology industry organization.
A month and a half ago, an energy pact was finally sealed after months of delay, confirming the exit from the nuclear in 2025. Opposed to this exit, the N-VA had ended up by accepting the idea of monitoring the effectiveness of the alternatives.
But for Bart De Wever, the exit from the nuclear is not obvious: the petrochemical sector in the port of Anvers is particularly energy-consuming. He also points out that France, Sweden and Switzerland keep their nuclear power stations active. “Unfortunately, it will be left to the next government to decide,” he said.
