Bart De Wever said he is frightened by the election results survey. “Nearly 60% of people in Wallonia vote left or extreme left," De Wever said on Wednesday on De Ochtend’s Radio 1 programme.

According to a survey conducted on behalf of VRT, Standaard, RTBF and La Libre, the N-VA - New Flemish Alliance, is still Flanders’ largest party, with 27.9% (-4.5% compared to May 2014), in front of CD&V - Flemish Christian Democrats (14.7%), Groen (14.6%) and Open VLD - Flemish Liberal Democrats (14.2%).

According to De Wever, Ecolo and Groen united could become the largest group. "And Kristof Calvo could then end up at 16. This is what we must oppose," he added.

To reassure its president, N-VA should reach 30% of votes. "It would allow us to close the door and avoid a very left-winged government, that would impose a tax tsunami for the population", said Antwerp’s mayor. He ensured, moreover, that there is no pre-agreement at the Flemish level between N-VA, Open VLD and sp.a.

"If we can form a centre-right government, we will make the federal. If not, we will put confederalism back on the discussions table," he warned De Wever.
