The 94 legislators of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation took the oath of office on Tuesday afternoon at the inauguration of the federation’s parliament.
They include 75 parliamentarians representing Wallonia and 19 from Brussels, designated by their parties on the basis of their electoral strength in the Brussels Region.
The parliamentarians provisionally re-elected Socialist Philippe Courard, the Socialist from Luxembourg province, as their speaker. The gavel could, in fact, change hands after the formation of the next majority in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Courard has chaired the Federation’s parliament since December 2014.
