The young Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg will travel by boat from Britain to the United States next month to attend a series of meetings on climate and to support the cause on the other side of the Atlantic, she announced on Monday.

"Good news!" She tweeted, stating that she 'has been offered a place aboard the Malizia II' and will leave mid-August.

Malizia II is a racing yacht, skippered by the German Boris Herrmann and Pierre Casiraghi from Monaco. The boat "is equipped with solar panels and underwater turbines ensuring zero carbon emission," the initiator of "Friday for climate” further explained.

Thunberg intends to attend the climate action summit organized by the United Nations in New York on 23 September, parallel to the Annual General Assembly, as well as other climate events scheduled on 20 and 27 September.

She will also visit Canada and Mexico before joining the annual conference on climate change organized by the UN in December in Santiago, Chile.

This will be the 16 year old’s first trip to North and South America since the launch of her motion before the Swedish parliament last summer. She will interrupt her schooling to make this trip.
