Eight Brussels Airlines flights to be cancelled on Monday because of strikes in Spain

Two aerial transport workers unions have warned they will be striking in Spain this week. The strikes will also affect Brussels Airlines, which works with the Spanish airline Nostrum: eight flights are expected to be cancelled on Monday. “The passengers have been informed and we have found an alternative solution for most of them”, the airline said on Sunday.

The USO and UGT unions went to Spanish airports and asked around 60,000 ground crew to go on strike from the 21st to the 24th of April. They want to reinforce their demand for workers to keep their rights when they move from one company to another.

The Sepla union for pilots has called for Air Nostrum pilots to go on strike on the 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th of April to protest the externalisation of flights to other airlines within the same group, Ilai. Ilai is based in Ireland and Malta. Around 10,000 passengers will be affected.

Brussels Airlines works with Nostrum, so will be affected by the strike. “There are on average 12 Nostrum flights a day”, said spokesperson Kim Daenen. Eight flights are likely to be cancelled on Monday. The airline said affected passengers have been notified and an alternative solution has been found for most of them.

The company is looking for possible solutions for the next few days and said “customers will be kept informed”.
