The Brussels Region has 1400 fewer on-street parking spaces than it had in 2016, despite the number of private cars remaining the same, according to recent figures. While there are approximately 496,000 private cars in the Brussels Region – a figure that has remained almost stable since 2007 – the number of on-street parking spaces significantly decreased between 2016 and 2018, reports La Capitale.

This information comes from the Parking Observatory, which is part of the regional agency parking.brussels. As of 31 December 2018, there were 304,983 road parking spaces left in the Brussels Region, according to the observatory’s calculations.

Jette eliminated the most on-street parking spaces over the past two years, with 308 fewer spaces. Schaerbeek removed 216, Saint-Gilles removed 171 and the City of Brussels removed 151. However, there are more than 43,600 street parking spaces in the City of Brussels. Compared to 26,100 places in Anderlecht and 25,300 in Schaerbeek.
