The Microsoft Innovation Center celebrates 5th anniversary, launches first "SoftLab" in Belgium

Based in Mons since 2009, the Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) has received positive feedback on its activities. The Walloon region, Microsoft, HP and VOO have announced the renewal of their partnership for the MIC, which is turning into a technological innovation laboratory for Walloon companies. The MIC presented the first"SoftLab" ( software prototype accelerator) in Belgium.

The MIC was founded in Mons in 2009 to stimulate entrepreneurship in the field of Information Technology and Communication (ICT). Based on a public-private partnership between the Walloon Region, Microsoft, HP and Voo, the MIC has developed “Boostcamps”, courses and conferences, helping to create more than 500 direct and indirect jobs and nearly 200 start-ups.

In 2014, this center for technological innovation created three new projects: an open space for developers, programming clubs in 15 high schools and the "MIC Summer Dev Camp".

The MIC also evolving laboratory for technological innovation, providing, with partners, a new action plan with the goal of creating two new projects and 100 jobs per year. The launch of "Softlab”, which is the first example of such a”software prototype  accelerator ”, aims to facilitate meetings between IT services providers and SMEs.
