Car Salon – Volvo will no longer produce the XC60 in Ghent

Volvo will no longer produce the XC60 in its factory in Ghent. The car company announced the news on Thursday during a press conference, held for the Car Salon press day. The announcement confirms information published in the Het Nieuwsblad. “The production of the XC60 will be moved to China, to meet the ever growing demand in that country”, Volvo said. It assured the Ghent workers that the move does not mean the Ghent factory will close. “The production of the S60 Cross Country will be at Ghent. The factory will also work on the concept of Compact Modular Architecture in the future, a program which we hope will be used to build small Volvo models”.
The Volvo stand, in Palais 6, will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Ghent factory, opened in 1965.
The Ghent factory employs 5,300 people, according to Volvo.
