Everybody is against it, but the quota of women works

Some still think the government should not have imposed quota of women for their administrative council. But, in practice, the majority of company administrators complying so far are happy with the effects of the quota. This was reported by De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad on Thursday. Some said there were not enough competent women when the federal government came up with the law. It says at least a third of the members of the administrative councils complying have to be of a different sex to the others. It was also said that women would become stooges. Today, it appears these fears were unfounded, according to a study by the Universiteit-Hasselt.

The firms taking part have to report on their efforts to meet the law’s quota annually. The quota will come into force for everyone in 2017 or 2019, according to the size of the company.
