Uber confirms its offices were searched

On Saturday afternoon, the car-sharing company Uber confirmed its Brussels offices were searched by “local authorities” last Thursday, in a short declaration. Several papers reported a search of Uber’s offices on Saturday. The most important point is that there is a Brussels government project on the table to create legislation around Uber, the company says.

“Transparency and responsibility are Uber’s priorities, and we continue to do everything we can to take part in an open and constructive dialogue, and help make moving around in Brussels easier”, says Filip Nuytemans, General Manager of Uber in Belgium.

According to the papers, the investigators seized documents relating to the company’s accounts. Their investigation will determine whether their car and driver service conforms to Belgian legislation.

A spokesman said Uber was still operating.
