Carrefour sales at standstill in Belgium

Carrefour sales at standstill in Belgium

Sales figures for supermarket chain Carrefour were at a standstill in its Belgian stores in the second quarter, according to results published on Thursday. Comparable turnover, taking into account stores open for at least 12 months and excluding temporary closures, has demonstrated zero growth. Turnover is stable following a strong second quarter last year, comments Carrefour. A 1% increase was registered over the first 2 quarters.

Global turnover fell by 0.6% in Belgium in the second quarter and by 0.4% over the first half of the year. According to the Carrefour spokesperson, this is purely an accounting consequence linked to delivery billing.

Overall the Carrefour group registered a 21.4 billion-euro turnover in the second quarter, the 4.2% increase experts were expecting. The brand’s growth is due to good results in Latin America. Carrefour showed organic growth of 2.6% (in all stores excepting petrol sales and local holidays). Turnover for the first semester was 42.3 billion euros (+5%).
