Government to convince Audi Brussels with 100 million euros

The federal government is offering a support package worth a total of 100 million euros in order to entice Audi to build its new electric car at the Forest factory. The news was confirmed by the office of Finance Minister Johan Van Overtveldt (N-VA), reveals the daily De Tijd on Thursday evening on its website.

The Brussels plant is where the Audi A1 is currently assembled. The model was very successful but will not be built there after 2017 when production is relocated to Spain. Audi Brussels is one of the options for the new Audi electric car scheduled for 2018.

The 3 regions have already cooperated to offer support measures for a total of almost 30 million euros, and the federal government is getting involved with a series of measures worth 100 million euros, mostly “tax shift” measures such as a lowering of business social contributions, or exceptions to the principle of income indexation. The support package also includes fiscal privileges for teamwork arrangements.

Measures specifically designed for Audi Brussels are also in the pipeline, such as tax credits for research and development, and tax exemptions for patent income, if the carmaker decides to relocate some of its research activities in Belgium. These 2 measures will be added to the other tax offers set up by the Finance Minister’s office and targeted at highly technical investments.
