EIB and Belfius unblock 400 million euros’ credit for Belgian SMEs

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Belfius have signed a new agreement on credit worth 200 million euros offered by EIB to supplement loans to SMEs and midcaps in Belgium. This figures brings the total amount available to SME, to 400 million euros, half of which was financed by Belfius, announced the two banks in a press release on Tuesday.

The new deal allows an extension of credit facilities for SMEs and midcap-sized companies, which have enabled over 1,500 projects to be financed “on preferential terms over the past eighteen months.”

SMEs make up over 99% of (non-financial) companies in the EU, generate almost 60% of added value and employ two thirds of the active population.
