Belgians convinced about entrepreneurship but scared to get into it

Now in its sixth year, the Amway Global Entrepreneurship Report (AGER) published on Wednesday has shown that 73% of Belgians see entrepreneurship positively, but only 33% of them actually go into freelancing.

Countries that have the best perception of freelancing are Denmark (with 96% of positive opinions), Norway (94%) and China (91%).

Belgians are just below world average (78%) when it comes to positive opinion on entrepreneurship and on starting your own business (43% world average). They are also less keen to start their own business than their French, Dutch or German neighbours.

However, 4 Belgians out of 10 would consider freelancing as a career option and reckon they would have the capacity and knowledge to take the plunge. Finally, 58 per cent of Belgians think society as a whole is in favour of entrepreneurship.

The 2015 AGER spans 44 markets, with in-person and telephone interviews conducted with nearly 50,000 men and women aged 14-99.
