E-commerce: negotiations with logistics industry fail

Ongoing discussions regarding e-commerce (online) in the sectors of transport and logistics have failed to deliver an agreement, according to the Socialist workers’ union. As a reminder, the government decided to legalise night shifts in e-commerce last spring, in order to catch up with neighbouring countries.  Unions and employers promised to reach an agreement on night and weekend shifts by the end of the year.

But discussions on e-commerce in the transport and logistics industries – representing some 45,000 workers – failed. The President of SETCa (a Socialist union), Erwin De Deyn, says this is because some employers adopted a strict “hard-line approach” in the hope that the government will rule in their favour.

The union highlights however that night shifts and weekend shifts have long been accepted in the sector, and that unions were ready to adapt and relax current collective labour agreements (CCTs). “As usual, industry bosses always ask for more,” points out the Socialist union.
