Air Belgium registers its first two planes

Air Belgium’s first two planes were registered on Friday, taking the airline a step further towards meeting an end-of-March target date for launching its first commercial flight. The two Airbus A340 planes, bearing registration codes OO-ABA and OO-ABB, were added to the national air register on Friday, according to information posted on the Mobility Department’s website.

Air Belgium boss Niky Terzakis had announced in late January that the airline would begin operating at the end of March out of Charleroi Airport, with flights to China.  Hong Kong will be its first destination.

The airline’s fleet will have a total of four A340s.

Air Belgium is still awaiting its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), which should be issued in late February.
