Flanders exceeds its wind and solar energy targets

Flanders surpassed its production targets for wind and solar energy in 2017, Flemish Energy Minister Bart Tommelein told a regional parliamentary commission on Wednesday in response to a question. Provisional figures indicate that the region’s windmills produced 204 megawatts (Mw) last year, while output from its solar generators was 177 Mw. The target for both types of energy was 150 Mw.

This is the second consecutive year that Flanders has surpassed its wind and solar-energy generation targets. Tommelein said he was thus optimistic that the region would meet its objectives for the year 2020.
