Volkswagen also tampered with the results of emissions tests on petrol engines, according to witnesses who have spoken to the Munich Prosecutor’s office. This was reported by the Bild am Sonntag, who were able to look at Public Ministry reports. Audi and Porsche, who also belong to the German automobile group, were also found guilty of fraudulent practises.
A few years ago, it was discovered that diesel motors constructed by the German brand had a special function that allows them to emit fewer toxic particles during tests than they would in normal conditions. These practises have cost the firm billions of euros in damages and recall operations.
A Volkswagen spokesman did not want to comment on an ongoing case.
