Construction sector expects further increase in 2019

The number of construction works in Belgium increased by about 2% to 2.5% last year, and the forecast for 2019 is a further increase of 1.5% to 2.0%, the Construction Confederation announced on Wednesday at a press conference. “Companies’ order books are full for more than six months on average, which is the best result in ten years,” the Confederation highlighted.

The sector took on about 3,000 additional workers between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018, but still had a labour shortage, with 16,500 posts vacant in the sector in the third quarter of last year.
