Orange announced on Thursday the signing of a new global agreement on gender equality in the workplace, covering its 149,000 employees worldwide.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday with the UNI Global Union trade union alliance, is a first for major French companies and the telecommunications sector, Orange stressed in a press release.

In this way, it said, Orange “underlines its commitment to workplace gender equality on a global scale.”

The agreement “follows up from two global agreements on fundamental rights and on health and safety, signed in 2006 and 2014 respectively by Orange and UNI Global Union,” the French telecoms company added in its press release.

The objective of the accord, which can be further developed and adapted in the various countries where Orange is present, is to “strengthen workplace gender equality and a positive work-life balance, and to combat discrimination and violence.”

Its aims further include reducing gender-related wage gaps and achieving a situation of equal pay for equal work/situation by 2025.

The text also covers relations with sub-contractors and service providers.
