Belgium hopes to see the logistics centre for Galileo set up in Transinne

The tender launched by the European Commission, which concerns the future logistical centre for the European GPS, expired on Tuesday. Belgium is one of the candidates. We could well see a maintenance and logistics centre for the European satellite navigation program set up in Transinne, LEcho reported on Wednesday. Belgium’s project, headed by the Luxemburg province’s intercommunity for economic development (Idelux), includes the construction of a new 4,000 m² building in the Galaxia Park in Transinne (Libin), which specialises in space study. “This maintenance and logistics centre would ensure that all the Galileo ground stations operate at 100%”, we heard from a source that knows the project. It would start off directly employing 30 people.

Although Idelux would supervise the construction of the building, it would need to find an operator to manage the centre. The company Vitrociset Belgium, which specialises in managing ground centres for satellites, has already shown an interest.
