European Negotiations about the end of roaming charges come to a positive resolution.

European Negotiations about the end of roaming charges come to a positive resolution.

Negotiations between the European Parliament, Council and  the Commission about Roaming rates for EU users came to an end on Wednesday evening. The representatives from these three organizations and the operators came to the conclusion that from the 15 of June the roaming rates will be set at 0.032 euro/ minute on phone calls, 0.01 euros/SMS according to the official executive communication of the EU.

With respect to data roaming, a reduction strategy was put into place that will be reduced the price of data roaming progressively from 15 of June to 2022; 7 euro/GB from June 15; 6 euro/GB from January 1 2018; 4,5 euro/GB in 2019; 3,5 euro/GB in 2020; 3 euro/GB in 2021 and finally 2,5 euro/GB in 2022. “It's a matter of solving the last part of the puzzle. From the 15 of June Europeans can travel without roaming charges. We have also been assured that operators can continue to offer competitive and attractive prices in their local markets.”this was commented by the commisariate in charge of “marche unique numerique” Andrus Ansip.

The new European rules will permit all travelers to use the same SIM card, that they normally use in their native states in any other EU member state as if they were at home.

This political resolution between the different institutions and the operators is the final stage needed to end roaming charges within the EU member states, applicable from the 15 of June. It must be noted that if consumer happens to exceed their roaming allowance during their travels within the EU, the excess may not be reimbursed as this only applies to the gross price.
