Belgian road network could be opened to self-driving vehicles

The independent network of slow lanes (RAVeL) could be opened to self-driving vehicles, Federal Minister for Mobility François Bellot suggested on Tuesday during a debate on La Première (RTBF). "I see an opportunity in the coming years - even if there is little potential - to put in place a mobility system such as autonomous vehicles, which can be situated at the same level as a cyclist or a pedestrian,” Bellot (MR, Reformed Movement) said.

The RAVeL network offers more than 1,350 km of old railways and towpaths in Wallonia, specially designed for cyclists, hikers, horse-riders, skaters or disabled persons.
