Calais migrant crisis – a French MP threatens to “let migrants leave” for England

The former French Work Minister Xavier Bertrand threatened David Cameron during an interview with a Sunday paper. He threatened to “let migrants leave” for England. The MP for the Right-wing Republican Party (LR) has accused David Cameron of “not having realised how serious the migrant problem is”.  Mr Bertrand is also a candidate for the Presidency of Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie, which Calais is part of. “The latest measures he announced are ridiculous and laughable. If he continues to offer nothing else, we’ll let the migrants leave. Then Mr Cameron can manage his policy his way, on his island”, he said.

“It’s not a question of money. A few million more will not solve the problem”, he went on. “He needs to understand that soft solutions and half measures will not solve anything”.

“The English must change their rules on migrants working. Even though you theoretically need certain papers to work in England, you can also work there without papers. Lots of bosses make the most of this to pay these workers less”, the LR MP said.

“English gentlemen, stop your social dumping, and sort out your laws on illegal labour! The English must step up. Or we’ll have to move the border”, he says.
