The EU wants to control its borders

Next week, the European Commission will propose a plan that will transfer a share of sovereignty of each Member State to the EU. This means that the intervention of the future European Corps of Border Guards could in the future be imposed on a Member State, even if it is against it. This news was relayed on Friday by the daily Le Soir, which could see the outline of the proposal for the reform of external borders control.

According to the bill, the Frontex agency will be transformed into a real European Border Agency, with public authority powers. A European reserve corps of 1,000 to 2,000 men will be formed in the Member States, and mobilisable within two to three days. It will be up to the European Commission to propose the activation of this "European corps of Border Guards", in case of severe impairment of a State in terms of controls at the external borders of the Schengen zone.

This measure might cause great conflict or even rage among Member States that do not wish to share their sovereignty on their own territory, says Le Soir
