After a bomb hit Diyarbakir in the South East of Turkey, EU issued a statement of solidarity.
The terror attack took place on Thursday (31 March). Seven police officers died and 27 people including 14 civilians were injured after a bomb-laden car was detonated while an armoured police vehicle was passing. PKK, the Kurdistan Workers´ Party, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to EEAS´ statement, which was issued on Saturday (2 April) by the spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS), “the High Representative and Vice President Federica Mogherini extended personally, at the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, the deepest condolences for those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, to president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also on behalf of the European Union.”
“As the European Union, we reiterate our continuing solidarity to Turkey, its government and its people confirming our full support in fighting terrorism and violence. The Turkish authorities are faced with difficult challenges, due also to the violent acts by PKK, which is on the EU list of terrorist organisations.
A genuine political dialogue in the framework of the Kurdish settlement process is the only way to achieve a peaceful and sustainable solution. Turkey should re-engage in Kurdish peace process which brought so many positive and promising results in the recent past. The EU is ready to support such a process.”
