Brexit to be triggered between 11th and 31st March
David Davis confirms that the UK Brexit timetable is on course.

The United Kingdom will trigger the process for leaving the European Union between 11th and 31st March. David Davis, Britain's Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union (“the Brexit Minister”) indicated this yesterday (Tuesday) in Stockholm.

Questioned upon the possibility of Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty being invoked at the EU summit on the March 9th and 10th, Mr Davis said that this would be too early. He stated, “The 9th or 10th is not a date I recognise in terms of our timetable. What we have said is by the end of March, sometime during March.”

The government is still waiting for the upper house, the House of Lords, to pass the bill giving the Prime Minister, Theresa May, the power to invoke Article 50. The House of Commons passed the bill on February 8th.

The Brexit Minister expressed his confidence that the two-year time period for concluding the relevant negotiations, after triggering Article 50, will be complied with.

He explained, “In two years, we wish to bring this matter to a successful conclusion. We have already said that we may have some aspects still to implement after the two-year period, but we believe that in two years [it is possible to bring the fundamental process to a conclusion].”
