Brexit: “This is an historic moment from which there can be no turning back.”
Theresa May is encouraging the British people to unite behind her as she enters the Brexit negotiations.

“This is an historic moment from which there can be no turning back,” the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, stated today (Wednesday). She was speaking before the House of Commons in the British parliament, when the British Ambassador to the EU had just handed a letter to the President of the European Council, starting the Brexit process.

The Conservative asserted, “At times like this, the choices we make determine our nation's character…We can look towards the future with optimism and hope. I choose to believe in the United Kingdom and think that our best days are yet to come.”

She then called upon the British people to unite to get “the best deal possible” with the European Union, stating that she was approaching the forthcoming negotiations with a “constructive mindset.”

Tim Barrow, the British Ambassador to the EU handed a letter to the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, at the beginning of the afternoon. In the letter, May invoked Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, notifying the EU of her country's intention to leave the trading bloc.

Mr Tusk said on his Twitter account, “After nine months, the United Kingdom has met its commitment.”

The EU heads of state and government will meet on April 29th, without the United Kingdom, to establish the guiding princples for the forthcoming negotiations.
