Brexit - Jean-Claude Juncker jokes about Brexit's vision

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker pledged Thursday in Valletta that he would encourage Ohio or Texas to leave the United States should US President Donald Trump continue to ostensibly rejoice over the Brexit. In front of the participants of the Congress of the European People's Party (EPP), the main federation of right-wing parties in the European Union (EU), Mr Juncker laughed at countries pleased with the Brexit, starting with the United States.

In this country, "the newly elected president is delighted to see Britain leave" the EU, he lamented at this congress opened on Wednesday in Malta, which assures the rotating presidency of the EU. "If he continues this way, I will encourage Ohio or Texas to leave the United States", he added, according to the translation of his remarks in German. "Brexit is not the end of everything, but we must make it a beginning of something that will be new, stronger and better", said Juncker, this time in French.

Nine months after the vote for the Brexit, the United Kingdom launched on Wednesday the historic process of exit from the European Union and began two years of difficult negotiations to cut the ties of its unenthusiastic 44-year union with the mainland.

Mr Juncker said last week that he had asked the United States not to encourage EU member states to leave it at a meeting with US Vice President, Mike Pence, in Brussels in February.
