“Today we mourn with you”, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Tuesday after the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on Monday night. As a sign of respect, the flags of all the European Commission buildings have been lowered to half-mast, a Commission spokesman said.

“It breaks my heart to think that once again terrorism has sought to instill fear where there should be joy, to infuse division where youth and families should come together, commented the President of the Commission, before presenting “his deepest condolences to Prime Minister May and to the British people.” “Tomorrow we will work side-by-side with you to fight against those who seek to destroy our way of life. They underestimate our own and your resilience – these cowardly attacks will only reinforce our commitment to work together to defeat the perpetrators of such heinous acts”, promised Jean-Claude Juncker.

The flags of all the Commission buildings have been lowered to half-mast, and the commissioners will observe a moment of silence on Wednesday morning before starting their weekly meeting, said a spokesman at the daily press briefing.
