The European Parliament officially supports Paris's bid for the 2024 Olympic Games

The European Parliament formally supports Paris's candidacy for the organisation of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, European Parliament President Antonio Tajani said on Tuesday. "It is not only a French candidate but a European candidate", he said. On Tuesday the sports intergroup of the parliament received a delegation of organisers supported by the French Minister of Sports, Laura Flessel, also in Brussels.

"This application is the only one in Europe, and we have all the keys to propose a project that will have an extraordinary impact on the lives of the French and Europeans", said Bernard Lapasset, co-chair of the bid committee, as an introduction to an official presentation of the project in Brussels.

Accessibility, accountability and sustainability are the three principles guiding the organisers who announce rates accessible to spectators at "under 24 euros", according to the minister.

In terms of accountability, the organisers announced a reduced carbon impact of 55% compared to the last two games in Rio and London. Lastly, in terms of sustainability, the organisers expressed their willingness to put sport at the heart of society by promoting education through sport, living together, improving the perspective on disability, and valorisation of the territories.
