If a new referendum took place now in Britain as to its membership of the European Union, a study published on Wednesday indicates that the eurosceptics would not replicate their success. Around 51% of Brits would now vote to keep their country within the European Union, according to the survey commissioned by the European Parliament. Some 34% of those surveyed would vote in favour of Brexit and 11% are undecided.
At the time of the referendum of June 2016, the Brits voted 52% in favour of Brexit.
The publication of the information comes when the heads of state and government of EU countries are meeting in Brussels for a summit, which is expected to be decisive regarding the Brexit issue.
Time is pressing in this regard as an agreement has to be concluded and ratified by both parties for March 29th next year, the date that Great Britain leaves the European Union (subject to the terms of any agreed transitional period).
